Bávaro is a site of the Verón Punta Cana municipal district, dependent on the Higüey municipality in the province of La Altagracia, Dominican Republic. Originally it was conceived as a dormitory town for the workers of the tourist complex of Punta Cana, but it has been transformed into a center of tourist services due to the hotel expansion towards the north of Punta Cana, around the Bávaro beach; thus becoming an important tourist area of the country.

Throughout the area there are dozens of hotels, including Spanish investment, such as Riu, Iberostar, Be Live Grand Punta Cana, Meliá, Barceló, Palladium, Catalonia or Bahia Principe. The area also has several nightclubs such as: Gold at Hard Rock Hotel, Imagine, Mangú or Pachá, which animate the nights of the tourists’ party.

Many tourist attractions have been installed, some of a certain size, such as the Manatí Park in Bávaro, a water park with manatees, dolphins and other kinds of animals. For tourists, the area of Punta Cana beaches is more popular because it is more affordable at international prices. However, Bávaro maintains the exclusivity and elegance that give it the title of best Caribbean beach. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Republic had an investment in the tourist area of more than 1,500 million dollars, equivalent to some 50,985 million Dominican pesos, representing a remarkable growth in this branch and consolidating tourism in the Dominican Republic as one of the best in the world. Only from the international airport of Punta Cana (PUJ) enter more than 2 000 000 tourists and more than 5 million passengers in general.
